The Beginner’s Guide to Erralon
[A world-building project using the structure of Wizards of the Coast’s D&D 5e system, following the guidance of the Open Games License]
Our narrative unfolds in the world of Caletastra, focusing on the singular continent of Erralon. Over 600 years ago, Erralon was transported to a different plane of existence to shield its inhabitants from a supposedly dire threat. What this threat actually was is no longer known, and discussion about the outside world is heavily censored. Merely the suggestion of investigating anything outside of Erralon can result in execution. Erralon suffers from overpopulation and is plagued by a debilitating disease known as “Abyssal Rot,” and it floats in an infinite black sea called The Brink. The wealthy and noble live untroubled at the continent’s centre, far from the life-draining grip of The Brink. In stark contrast, the impoverished, dishonoured, and criminal classes are relegated to the continent’s edge, enduring relentless hardship and horrors unimaginable. As Erralon nears its 650th year of isolation, discontent is mounting among its populace. Rumours circulate about the possibility of reactivating the gates once used to escape Erralon, although anxiety over what they might be faced with upon their departure keeps most of investigating further.
